In a normal person, 70-80 % of cholesterol is synthesized in the liver. Between 20-30% of blood cholesterol comes from dietary intake.
The sulfur compound the garlic blocks the formation of cholesterol in the liver and, thus total blood cholesterol level declines. The concentration of bad cholesterol, that is LDL, and triglycerides go down, the good cholesterol, that is HDL is raised. The net effect of these changes is a reduction o heart attack disease.

A total of 423 patients who had already suffered a heart attack were divided into two groups. One group received the daily supplement of garlic juice in milk; the other group did not. The results were revealing! Patients in the group that received garlic juice had lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol, and had lesser number of a second heart attack. In fact, the death rate in the garlic group was approximately 50% as compared to the ‘no garlic’ group.
